How It Started

A red barn with lit exterior lights sits in a dark, rural landscape under a night sky with a bright moon and clouds.

Our studio building itself has a long and storied history,

dating back to 1978. Its genesis was formed all the way back in 1964 in Roslyn, New York, when Jack Jones built his first studio in the basement of his house. By the mid-seventies his client list had grown so large that it had outgrown the studio, as well as his neighbors’ patience.

Having several important contacts at a few of the big New York City studios and record labels, he found he had a steady stream of sessions and decided to dive full time into the studio business. Finally, around 1977, he realized some major changes were in order.

He sold off his share of the family furniture store and used the proceeds to purchase this land here in Southbury, Connecticut, where he built a home and studio, moving his young family in 1978.

The studio was well designed, from the ground up, and Jack and his son Evan successfully ran RBY Productions for more than 30 years. Not only did they serve the local areas throughout Connecticut, but clients kept coming up from the New York City area, with some even coming from Europe. They all felt it was a refreshing disconnect from the hustle and bustle of New York City. Over those 30 years, RBY produced many projects for various local & international artists: Take a look at this list of artists who passed through their doors.

Renovating the Studio

Extensive renovations include: new tech, carpeting, removal of old sound foam, bass traps in the control room, corner bass traps in the live room, new tile flooring, renovation of foyer, bathroom, lounge, lighting, HVAC, ultraviolet lighting disinfection to the air supply, replacing plastic trim with cedar or pine and repairing existing soffit mounted JBL 4315 monitors. And, of course, having Redco Audio provide wiring, connectors for the repairs, panels, added cabling and more.

Today

Sadly, Jack passed away and the studio and property eventually came up for sale. I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase it and, after some extensive renovations and modernization, we are in full operational mode.

It is our desire to honor the legacy of Jack and his vision of a comfortable, well-designed and equipped studio environment while continuing to provide the utmost in professional recording and audio services.
